THE FOG – Temple Earth
Since the beginning of time humans have sought the sacred. We see this in the many archeological discoveries across the planet. The first sacred spaces were found in nature under the stars. Even when buildings were constructed nature was incorporated into their design. Then over time as technology slowly grew we began to separate ourselves from nature. Now that technology is moving at what seems like the speed of light so are mega churches which are losing all sense of the natural world. Today the Christian right and religious fanaticism of all stripes flourishes within the glass walls of mega churches, temples, governments and corporations. All the while we are quickly losing our connection to the natural world as our ego attachments are fueled. This has resulted in a grievous loss of connection with Mother Earth. The planet has experienced five mass extinctions. Today scientists tell us that if we look to the near future we will see the next mass extinction looming over the horizon. This extinction will be different from the others because it is being caused by humans.
We have forgotten that the entire planet is a temple. No matter where we are on the planet we are in a sacred place. We have created temples to fulfill our need for creative expression and union. However this realization has been possessed by the ego of ignorance and as a result today Mother Earth is greatly suffering. What we therefore need to create is a new collective story which will reunite all peoples everywhere within the sacred bosom of Mother Earth.
We must wake up from the delusion that humans are the most important entity on the planet. We hear this being echoed across the planet with the rise of Nationalist Populism. All you have to do is turn on any television set and you will see one segment of society claiming they are the greatest. For example the chant “make America great again” is a brainwashing technique which has been repeated in many forms over many centuries by many cultures. This is nothing new. It is primitive but not new and is the bastion of the ignorant and spiritually immature. It has been the practice of so called civilized societies to oppress and decimate the native cultures which they invade and colonize on their way to greatness. For example the rural peoples, tribes and natives of Europe were colonized by the Romans who in turn colonized the Americas. The cycle keeps repeating itself because we still live by the same old paradigms which have been created through the advancement of greed.
Much of humanity is trapped in the past within the ancient narratives of nationhood and the human minds construct of artificially created nation boundaries. Just as pollution does not recognize national boundaries so to do climate refuges and migrants fail to recognize these magical lines in the sand. In fact if you look very close you will see magical thinking is the real enemy of the people. What we need today is the courage to recognize the new paradigm of interdependence. This new paradigm will liberate us from the suffering of the past. For it is too easy to be stuck in our past lives of pain. What we need is to possess the courage to look into the future and create a new narrative which all life can share in. We must remember how to communicate with the natural world and listen to its wisdom. If we do not the next mass extinction will be directly related to climate change and humans will be left with their own blood on their hands.
For instance, every living thing wants to live. If a hunter asks a deer if it wants to live it will say yes. If the hunter then ask the deer if it will offer its life to feed his family, the deer will say yes. The deer knows its place and purpose. Minerals feed plants. Plants feed the deer. The deer feeds people. But who do people feed. It seems people who have lost their connection to Mother Earth have only learned to feed off each other and all other living things.
When people clear cut a forest the trees are terrified. The trees do not know what is happening. They only experience slaughter. Animals who are corralled and killed on mass are terrified. Plants who are unknowingly uprooted are also terrorized. They do not know why they are dying. They just know they are being massacred. This may sound crazy to some, and if it sounds crazy to you then maybe it is time to look a little deeper within yourself. This is just an example of how irresponsible and unaware the actions of people can be. Humans who do not take responsibility for the welfare of Mother Earth can be guilty of narcissism and genocide.
Once again imagine if the hunter asked the deer if it would give its life to feed his family? The deer would understand and gladly give its life for this is part of its purpose in life. The deer would understand and would not be afraid and terrorized. It would simply give its life. All nature wants is to fulfill its purpose whether it is to live or die in beauty. This is what is meant by the adage “this is a good day to die”. These are things humans must learn from the natural world.
In addition once an animal, tree or plant gives its life we must honour it and say thank you. For without their sacrifice we could not survive. We can say thank you with a prayer, an offering of tobacco, or by planting another tree to replace the Christmas tree we just cut down. We can all find a way to say thank you and honour the sacredness and sacrifice of Mother Earth.
If we could learn to live by these principles and take responsibility for our actions we will have the door which connects us to Mother Earth opened wider. Then we will become aware that the clear cutting of a rain forest is ripping the lungs out of Mother Earth and that by burning fossil fuels we are raping her. If we have the courage to walk through the door then humans may not have to face their own extinction by suicide. Will the destruction and rape only end when humans are extinct or can we wake up and do better? I pray we can do better.
At this point in time corporations are starting to change tactics because there is a tremendous financial cost to ignoring Mother Earth. Floods, rising oceans, fires, drought, climate change all have a price tag. Mother Earth is now hitting humans where it hurts. Their pocket books and bank accounts. Finally when enough citizens of this glorious planet become displaced and are starving Mother Earth will either lead the greatest extinction in history or the greatest revolution in history. Hopefully the citizens of Mother Earth will wake up from the spell cast on them by corporate elites and join the revolution.
Nothing is permanent. All empires end. Today’s empires will also end. The question is what or who will replace them. If they are not replaced with the gnosis of homo spiritus then we may in fact be doomed to die in the loving arms of a grieving Mother earth.
